Bananas Fosters Bread Pudding – Bon Temps Grill

Who says New Orleans is the only place to get great bananas foster?

Bon Temps Grill has a mouth-watering combo of bread pudding and bananas foster. Not only do you get the decadent taste of rum and bananas and gooey bread pudding, it is also served up a la mode with creamy ice cream.

If you enjoy live music, Bon Temps also regularly has a great line-up. Their music schedule can be found on their website here.

Snow Cones

Beat the heat with a refreshing snow cone. You have options all over the city from the staple Cajun Snow on Johnston St, to Lydia D’s Snowballs on Moss St. and T’s Kitchen at CanDee Land Sneauxball Stand in Scott plus many more!

The most important decision you will have to make is whether to get it “stuffed” with ice cream or served with condensed milk on top.

A category of it’s Own – Nina Creole

We’re not sure what to call this one, but if you are ready for your mind to be blown, check out the Nina Creole food truck. Besides their delicious food offerings, they have a fried Gentilly king cake egg roll dessert. It’s practically magic that melts in your mouth. Nina Creole is often parked at Parc de Oaks along with other great food truck options.

Wedding Cake Petit Fours – Gambino’s Bakery

If you love Gambino’s wedding cake with their mouth watering almond flavor, petit fours are the perfect miniature dessert for you. They are always a fantastic treat to bring to events or serve at parties and showers. No matter the season, Gambino’s will have on-theme petit fours ready for you.

King Cakes – Poupart Bakery

During Mardi Gras season, you can’t miss out on a traditional French King Cake from Poupart’s, which is a round puff pastry with almond filling that is served warm. Equally as good (in our humble opinion), are their king cake macaroons (pictured below).

For a modern king cake in Lafayette, it’s worth hunting down a Crystal Weddings king cake at one of their distribution locations.

Brownies – Keller’s Bakery Downtown

If you want the best brownies in Lafayette, head over to Keller’s Bakery Downtown. They are perfectly balanced, moist and crunchy with light powdered sugar icing on top. Say no more!

New Dessert Options in Lafayette

Our new favorite dessert places in Lafayette are Crumbl and The Peach Cobbler Factory.

Crumbl rotates their cookie menu each week so it’s always fun to go there and discover what gourmet cookie options are available.

The Peach Cobbler Factory has an extensive menu that will make all your cobbler dreams come true. We personally recommend the blackberry cobbler which comes topped with ice cream.

Candy & Ice Cream – Candyland Cottage and Ice Cream Shoppe

Now with Candyland Cottage locations in Scott & Rayne, you have multiple options to bring the family together for a retro ice cream or candy of your choice. Every time we visit, nostalgia hits hard.

Remember those candy cigarettes and gummy cola bottles?

Special Mention – Abita Strawberry Lager

Not technically a food dessert, but Abita Strawberry Lager is often our go-to dessert option from our fridge at home. It’s made locally with Louisiana’s own strawberries.

Lemon & Gooey Butter Squares – Twin’s Burgers & Sweets

Who would have thought dessert bars could trump other dessert options? In the case of Twin’s Burgers & Sweets, it’s true! Their squares get our vote! Whether you try their lemon, gooey butter or pecan pie squares, you’ll find they are the perfect after-meal sweet. We bet you won’t be able to eat store bought ones ever again after trying these.

Berry Gentilly Lace Cupcakes – Rouses markets

Craving a quick dessert on the go? Look no further than Rouses. Their Berry Gentilly Lace cake and cupcakes are light and delicious. They are so good that they have quickly become a local staple, especially on hot days.

The Best Tiramisu – Whole Foods Market

Want something richer and more indulgent? Believe it or not, Whole Foods has the BEST to-go tiramisu.
To get any better, you’d have to take a trip to Italy. Trust us on this one!

Homemade Pies – Lea’s Lunchroom

Willing to venture further out of town? You will be rewarded with pies! Since 1928, Lea’s Lunchroom has been serving up delicious homemade pies. If you are ever near Lecompte (perhaps on the way to Alexandria), it’s worth making a pit stop for this homemade treat.

The non-Dessert Dessert

If dessert is not in your current diet, we’ve got you! Get whiffs of dessert on your skin! Local New Orleans perfumer, Hez Binkowitz, makes Louisiana-inspired perfumes.

Our personal favorite is Banana Bread Banshee, but Hurricane and Bourbon Street won’t disappoint either.

Bonus Tip

Check out the Valpak mailers as they often have 2-for-1 specials and deals on local desserts.
